Locations > Drishane House
Located in the charming coastal village of Castletownshend in West Cork, Drishane House has been the home of the Somerville family for nine generations, or nearly 250 years. Thomas Somerville built the house around 1780 in classic Georgian style, its elevations hung with purple Benduff slate and surrounded by park-like gardens with mature trees, including several rare specimens. It is situated at the top of the hill, commanding fabulous views of Castlehaven Bay and the sea beyond. This is a rare coastal gem.
Steeped in history, it is most strongly associated with the writer & painter Edith Somerville (of Somerville & Ross, author of “The Irish RM”) who called Drishane House home for most of her life. A museum dedicated to her life & work is set up in her former studio on the grounds.
Featuring a plethora of period details throughout, Drishane House has been used as a location in RTE’s series “Lords & Ladies” and the owners are very open to filming.
