Locations > Grand Parade
Grand Parade was designed as a showpiece for the City when it was originally built and Cork was an important shipping centre for the British Empire. As such it boasts some grandiose buildings, wide streets, ornate fountain, public park and the gem of Cork, The English Market’ – a covered Victorian food market. The street was refurbished recently by a Barcelonan architect and the granite pavements have been extended and old lights replaced by funky angular designs. Outdoor cafes have sprung up and this semi-pedestrianised street is now quieter than of old, but better for that. The main action has passed to Patrick’s Street at the North end where all the usual High Street outlets can be found.
