Locations > National Maritime College
Set on a 10 acre site with direct access to the river estuary this is a National state-of-the-art facility which trains people for the Irish Navy, non-military naval purposes and the Merchant Navy . Its interest to film makers is primarily the specialist Simulation, fire-fighting and marine rescue facilities, including a swimming pool with full Storm Generator and lifeboats in situ, two ship deck simulators, a fire-fighting tower & practice area, and a jetty with Lifeboat launching equipment. This is ideal for dramatic reconstructions of a maritime nature.
It also has numerous labs, classrooms, lecture theatres and a sizeable gym hall, all with state-of-the-art facilities so it could be used to cheat other locations too. Another benefit is that, as a training facility, it is pretty well empty at weekends and the operators are very film-friendly. Specialist operators could be hired for filming purposes and extras could be drawn from the students & staff if required.
