Timoleague Abbey stands picturesquely at the water’s edge in Timoleague at the head of Courtmacsherry bay.  It is a commanding ruined abbey with an ancient graveyard and views out across the bay.  It was founded by the Franciscan order in 1240 A.D. The abbey was built on the site of a monastic settlement founded by Saint Molaga in the 6th century.
