This is an amazing location for film makers looking for old dockyards, huge cranes and giant hangars. Verholme is all but closed now, although they still refit Irish Naval Ships and Tugs for the Port of Cork, so there is interesting activity going on – welders and heavy machinery at work etc. However, the majority of it is lying redundant and so is ideal for filming. It has a working dry dock (pictured) plus two other harbours/docks which have all the boats and marine props which one would need. There are two giant unused slipways; one so big it has small businesses located under it! It also has a number of engineering sheds, some operational and two giant hangars that used to house major ships. It is film-friendly and even has its own quaint red brick Victorian railway station with wrought iron bride across the road – ideal for period pieces.
