Whitegate is a small village on the eastern shore of Cork Harbour, Ireland. The 2003 census gives the population as 442. It was once a busy fishing port and well known for its lace-making. In the 20th century Ireland’s only Oil Refinery was built on Corkbeg Island, one side of the bay and the Aghada Power Generating plant on the other.
There is a 14th C church in the grounds of Corkbeg churchyard, now a Church of Ireland parish.
