RTÉ Cork’s ‘Taste of Success’ takes off again!

The food competition with the biggest prize on Irish TV- a whopping 100K and your product in over 140 Lidl supermarkets- returned last week, and you can catch it on RTÉ 1 AT 8.30 pm. This year the programme is presented by Kerry native Dáithi Ó Sé who, as he says himself  – had a great summer travelling the country tasting the best new dishes the nation has to offer…Daithi and Catherine

The RTÉ Cork based production did indeed travel the length and breadth of the country in search of the next winner of the amazing prize. Cork based cameraman Barry Donnellan was again DOP and did a fine job making all the food look as tasty on-screen as it was off..

Kinsale based TV chef Martin Shanahan (Fishy Fishy restaurant) once again represents Munster in this year’s competition and he will be hoping to repeat his feat and win the competition again. He has stiff competition from the 3 other regional judges – Galway based JP McMahon ( Connaught/ Ulster judge) Leinster judge Catherine Fulvio and Dublin mentor Domini Kemp.

With a Cork based production team, RTE Cork was a hive of activity for the entire summer. The production is now deep into post production with editors Cliona Nolan and Aileen Crowley applying the finishing touches in RTÉ Cork facilities on Father Mathew Street. Dubbing is both in-house RTÉ Cork ( by Niall A.B. O’Sullivan) and Conor Barron of Cork-based company Half Light Sound.Daithi & Domini

RTÉ Cork now spends around €4 million in programme making and news gathering in Cork, and employs around 35 people as well as a significant number of freelancers in programme making from producers to camera crews. Currently RTÉ in Cork produce shows such as ‘Nationwide’, ‘Taste of Success’, ‘The Today Show’ (live everyday from Cork with Maura Derrane and Dáithí O Se) as well as radio shows such as the John Creedon Show and news gathering operations.

The Taste of Success runs from Sept 8
th to 27th October with the winning product appearing on the shelves of every Lidl in the country the following day. Fair warning – Don’t watch if you’re on a diet!!
